The World’s Best Proposal Spots

January 16, 2026

Where are the most world’s best proposal spots?  Paris might be the city of love, but where else can compete?  With Valentine’s Day fast approaching, Europesure Travel Insurance has taken a look at other options.

Venice, Italy

Venice is often regarded as the most romantic place in Italy, beating Rome in many polls.  There are some fantastic places in which to pop the question in Venice, from the atmospheric St Mark’s Square, to a canal side by night. However, the number one choice is probably that of proposing on a gondola ride.

If this is your plan, you will find a variety of companies that can help you stage-manage things, whether that is having a sign of ‘Will You Marry Me’ hung over a bridge as you pass beneath, or capturing the proposal moment on camera. Just remember to stay seated when proposing, or you could end up making a big splash and entirely the wrong impression.  Have the ring at hand and simply look into your loved ones eyes, as you flash the gems.

Want to know more about secret places in Venice that could provide the perfect proposal location?  Turn to an expert like L’Altra Venezia and they will soon be revealed.

Cappadocia, Turkey

Fairy-tale rock formations and ancient caves can be the perfect backdrop to a proposal in Cappadocia, definitely one of the world's best proposal spots. Add into the mix one of the famous hot air balloon flights that are synonymous with Cappadocia and you have all the ingredients for the perfect proposal.  Head up and away by balloon at dawn, setting your question-posing against a delightful pink sky, or await the soft hues of golden hour as the sun begins to sink.  Another option can be that of pre-arranging things with a specialist and proposing by candlelight in a cave, or on a picnic blanket laid out in Love Valley.

Positano, Italy

Heading back to La Bella Italia, Positano is where many a marriage proposal has been pitched.  In fact, the Spiaggia Grande – the large beach in Positano – has seen it all when it comes to romantic propositions and is widely regarded as one of the world's best proposal spots.  With yellow, blue, white and terracotta houses as a canvas, a variety of yacht hire options and even the opportunity to do something different, such as heading to a vineyard for a precisely planned pop the question moment, do not overlook Positano.

Neuschwanstein Castle, Schwangau, Germany

Located south-west of Munich, close to ski resorts such as Garmisch-Partenkirchen and atmospheric villages including Oberammergau, this fairy-tale castle really provides a Cinderella moment or two.  If seeking to propose, you can lay the pathway by taking your loved one on a horse-drawn carriage ride up to the castle.  You can then get the ring at the ready, once in the famous Singers’ Hall inside the castle, where getting down on one knee will not feel out of place.  Otherwise, if you simply want to have the castle in the background of your proposal photos, head to the Marienbrücke bridge, taking advantage of a shuttle bus from the castle car park, attach a love lock and gaze across Pöllat Gorge, back to Neuschwanstein.

The Empire State Building, New York

The iconic Empire State Building is very much associated with romance, thanks to films such as Sleepless in Seattle, making it a perfect and memorable place in which to ask one’s loved one to tie the knot.  The Empire State Building in New York offers a proposal package and will set aside a corner of the building’s open-air 86th floor observatory for those who want to take it up.  Following the proposal, the couple can then tour an exhibition that highlights others who have had their lifetime’s love story confirmed here.  Head up to the 102nd floor, to take in 360-degree views of the city, pick out the landmarks through the floor to ceiling windows, and prepare to live happily ever after.

Diamond Beach, South Coast, Iceland

The Northern Lights may be sufficient reason alone to make Iceland your chosen destination for your proposal plans.  But why not add in another fabulous natural feature such as the Seljalandsfoss waterfall?  If you are looking for the ultimate amidst Mother Nature, set a course for Diamond Beach, a 5 to 6-hour drive from Reykjavik, which is most certainly one of the world's best proposal spots.

On this dramatic beach, volcanic black sand cushions icebergs washed in from the Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, providing a stark and awe-inspiring contrast.  Between November and March, this phenomenon is at its absolute best but, at any time, the crystal of the ice, bluish sea hues and the diva icebergs will create a unique amphitheatre in which to propose.  Of course, you could also venture inside an ice cave, for a little more privacy.

Protecting your investment through travel insurance

If you have all hopes planned on pulling off the perfect pre-planned proposal, whilst on your travels, do not leave anything to chance.  That includes the possibility that your careful plans could come to nothing if you have to cancel your trip, due to perhaps an illness suffered by yourself, your intended or one of your close family. Other unexpected eventualities include jury and emergency service, redundancy, a home disaster and a few other scenarios.  Losing your financial investment in your trip might mean you cannot rebook at another time, so always buy your Europesure Travel Insurance as soon as you arrange flights and accommodation, or ensure you are already covered on an existing annual travel insurance policy.

Also make sure you purchase the right policy for your intended proposal destination, as a policy intended for European travel will not cover that trip to the Empire State Building!

Take good care of the ring too, as it may not be covered by the single item sum insured limit on your travel insurance policy, should you lose it or have it stolen.

Should things turn out as you plan, you may well decide that it’s a good omen and decide to marry overseas too.  If that’s the case, you might want to consider the weddings extension to your travel insurance cover that Europesure Travel Insurance offers. This increases your standard travel insurance protection, to offer cover for key wedding components such as gifts and wedding attire.  Check it out, if your successful overseas marriage proposal has led you to book a dream beach wedding, or other way to tie the knot in a stunning destination abroad.
