Where to Celebrate American Independence Day

June 4, 2023

Independence Day, celebrated annually on July 4, marks the anniversary of 13 British colonies gaining independence from Britain back in 1776, this feat leading to the founding of the USA.  Understandably, this is a time of huge celebration for Americans and people travel from worldwide locations to join the festivities and the unique atmosphere that accompanies them.

If you yourself are planning an Independence Day trip to the States in future years, here are some of the events with which you might want to get involved, compiled for you by Europesure Travel Insurance.

New York

Macy’s department store’s  annual July 4 fireworks’ show is the biggest in the country and features performances from some of pop and Broadway’s top stars.  The display features no fewer than 65,000 pyrotechnics, which dazzle and delight.  For the best views of this spectacular show, head to the One World Observatory viewing platform, in the One World Trade Centre.

Washington knows how to celebrate in style.  Its main annual July 4 event is a parade featuring military tanks, marching bands and floats from across the country.  Watch them as they parade along Constitution Avenue.

Another annual event taking place on July 4 in Washington is the Capitol Fourth Concert which sees some of the best Broadway, pop and R&B singers perform live on the West Lawn of The Capitol.

If you’re not going to be in Washington, you can view the action live here.

Los Angeles

If there is anywhere that knows how to throw a party, LA is that place.  There are a number of opportunities to celebrate, including the City of Angels Hollywood Bowl, which hosts an annual concert and fireworks display, and the Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, which does the same.

If you head to the waterfront at Long Beach, you’ll be able to watch the Queens Bay Fireworks.  Meanwhile over at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery they usually combine fireworks, films and concerts all over the Independence Day weekend.

Houston Texas

Texas knows how to mark July 4 in style.  Each year the Red, Hot & Blue Festival hosts various events across the Woodlands area, including a 1.3-mile parade, street food stalls, live bands and children’s activities.  Meanwhile, Centennial Park hosts food vendors, singers and fireworks.

If you head to Galveston Island, on the other hand, you’ll be able to see the annual parade of military vehicles, floats, performers and drone show

Boston basks in a lot of Fourth of July hype and the city certainly lives up to expectations, with events for the whole family.  Music and fireworks typically combine in the annual Boston Pops annual Fourth of July Spectacular, held at the Hatch Memorial  Shell.

General travel insurance advice for the USA

If you are stateside for Independence Day, do have a wonderful time but, as with all travel,   holidaying in America does come with risks.  The July 4 celebrations are likely to be accompanied by large crowds of people, so take care of your belongings, don’t carry anything of value and be mindful of your surroundings, so as to avoid theft.

Another thing to consider before you pack for the USA is that healthcare is expensive and the system is totally unlike that in the UK.  If you are injured or fall ill, you could find yourself faced with an astronomical medical bill.

Then there are other risks that could impact on your holiday and even health, including weather events such as hurricanes and tornados, to which parts of the USA are susceptible.

To ensure your break is as relaxing as possible and mindful of all of the potential risk, take out adequate travel insurance to cover all eventualities.  Buy this as soon as you book your holiday and you will immediately have cancellation cover too.

Head to www.europesuretravelinsurance.com and choose from single trip holiday insurance for worldwide destinations including the USA and Canada, or annual multi-trip policies that will also cover these destinations, as well as others, each time you travel, for the specified number of days per trip.  Different levels of cover are available, to suit your budget and requirements.

Enjoy your July 4 in the USA, safe that Europesure can be there to assist you, whether you are travelling from your home in the UK, the EU, the EEA, Monaco or Gibraltar.
